AL-Season Brochure 2019-20 R2.jpg

Ars Lyrica’s 2019/20 season explores iconic moments in diverse European cultures, from Venice in the late 17th century through Madrid in the early 19th century. With
a range of musical styles and genres accompanied by dance, visual art, and dramatization, this season of “National Treasures” illuminates defining moments in French, Italian, English, German, and Spanish cultural history. We look forward to sharing some truly dazzling treasures with you in five subscription programs at the Hobby Center’s intimate Zilkha Hall and one special concert for full subscribers in Duncan Recital Hall at Rice University.

Thanks to strong local support for Baroque opera in Houston, Ars Lyrica now offers a fully-staged opera every two years. Our November 2018 production of Handel’sAgrippina delighted audiences and got rave reviews, and we’re thrilled to be able to announce our next fully-staged opera: Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, which will be part of the 2020/21 Ars Lyrica season. This production will be directed and choreographed by Catherine Turocy, Artistic Director of the New York Baroque Dance Company, and conducted by ALH Artistic Director Matthew Dirst. The first program of our 2019/20 season also features these renowned period dancers in authentic costume. Come get a preview of their elegant footwork and our gorgeous dance music at the season opener on September 20!

In this brochure you will find descriptions of all 2019/20 programs plus a subscription order form. For the best seats and prices, subscribe now and take advantage of early discounts on either a four or six concert subscription.

With many thanks for your continued patronage and our best wishes.
