Trumpet

A Texas native with international roots, Nathaniel Mayfield is one of the world’s leading baroque trumpet soloists. With engagements at home and abroad, his playing has been described as “radiant,” “gorgeous,” “flawless… A pioneer on the baroque trumpet.” Mr. Mayfield received his musical education at Interlochen Arts Academy, Tangelwood Institute, and The Juilliard School before travelling to Germany on a Fulbright Grant for further studies with Reinhold Friedrich. Other accolades include 1st Prize at the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition, 1st Prize at the Aspen Brass Concerto Competition, and 1st Prize at the National Trumpet Competition. In 1994 he was chosen as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts by President Bill Clinton at a White House Ceremony. Mr. Mayfield is currently Instructor of Trumpet at Texas A&M in College Station, Assistant Professor at Concordia University, and Director of Music for The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He is the proud father of Elizabeth Cecelia and husband to wife Ulrike.
